The AG noted that the failure to digitise may imply an extinction of the Ghana Law Reports, and other publications of the Council.

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has tasked the Council for Law Reporting to digitize its operations immediately.

He was speaking at the swearing-in of the new governing board of the Council in Accra.

He acknowledged that technology was quickly evolving and that the failure to digitise may imply an extinction of the Ghana Law Reports and other publications of the Council.

“With the proliferation of rival law reports and the availability of same on the world wide web at the click of a button, there is an immediate need for your Council to go fully digital and improve the speed of law reporting,” he stated.

“The rapidly evolving technological world implies that law reporting also ought to keep step with the dictates of the times. The tendency for the Ghana Law Reports to lag behind, in terms of time, must be a phenomenon of the past."

The six-member board is chaired by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, a Justice of the Supreme Court.

Speaking on behalf of the board, Justice Pwamang said, “we have plans to digitise our law reporting system for people to purchase or subscribe to law reports and to ensure that the high product that we produce becomes beneficial to the people.”

The other governing members are, Ms Frederica Sala Hiasu, from the office of the A-G, Mr Anthony Forson Jr, former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Mr Samuel Kusi Donkor, from the Ghana Publishing Company Limited, Dr Samuel Obeng Manteaw, from the University of Ghana Faculty of Law and Mrs Margaret Awuku-Gyekye, the Editor of the Ghana Law Reports.
