A 45-year-old trader, Perry Ohene Darko, has been granted bail to the tune of GH¢15,000 by the Kaneshie District Court Two after being charged with assaulting a fellow trader and political colleague.

Though his plea was not taken, the court directed that he produce two sureties, one of whom must be a civil servant residing within the court’s jurisdiction and able to justify the surety.

Darko is scheduled to reappear in court on August 15, 2025.

The prosecution, while not opposing bail, requested that the accused be made to sign a bond to be of good behavior as part of the conditions. Defense counsel supported the application, assuring the court that Darko had a permanent residence within the area and credible individuals willing to stand as sureties.

The complainant, Madam Doris Gyamfua Asabea, and the accused are both traders and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The incident reportedly occurred on June 25, 2025, following an NPP event at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.

According to police investigations, an argument broke out after Darko confronted Asabea over a viral video in which she was allegedly seen insulting the party’s General Secretary. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Asabea filing a police report.

A medical form was issued to the complainant, and following the submission of her report, Darko was arrested. Though he denied the allegations in his statement, police say witnesses confirmed the assault, leading to his arraignment.
