The automated system will use roadside cameras and Personal Digital Assistant devices to identify suspected traffic violations and support enforcement by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department.

Motorists who violate Ghana’s road traffic laws will begin receiving electronic offence notices by SMS when the police fully roll out the TRAFFITECH-GH programme on October 1, 2026.

The automated system will use roadside cameras and Personal Digital Assistant devices to identify suspected traffic violations and support enforcement by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department.

According to a police statement issued on September 15, recorded violations will be reviewed before an Electronic Notice of Violation is sent to the vehicle owner or driver.

The notice will provide details of the offence and indicate the applicable fine.

Police say the technology is being introduced to improve compliance with traffic laws and tackle indiscipline on the country’s roads.

The initiative is also expected to support efforts to reduce road crashes, injuries and fatalities by making traffic enforcement more consistent.

Drivers, motorists and vehicle owners have been advised to familiarise themselves with the programme and comply strictly with road traffic regulations before its nationwide implementation begins.
