The trial of Yahuza Osumanu, who is accused of robbing former Second Lady Mrs. Matilda Yaaba Amissah-Arthur, is set to begin in the upcoming legal year.

This follows the completion of the Case Management Conference (CMC) on June 20, 2024.

The presiding judge, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, has thus scheduled the parties to meet again on July 24 to set the trial dates for the 2024–2025 legal year, which begins in October.

On June 6, the prosecution filed their third set of disclosures, which included evidence they plan to use in court.

Additionally, the state attorney mentioned that the prosecution has nine witnesses prepared to testify.

Background

The accused person was charged on April 16, 2024, with robbery and money laundering for assaulting Matilda Yaaba Amissah-Arthur during the robbery, striking her with his gun.

He allegedly stole various currencies, including GH¢3,000, USD 2,200, and fifty euros, as well as a gold watch and necklace valued at GH¢20,000 and GH¢5,000, respectively from the former Second Lady’s home.

The prosecution also claims that Osman used the stolen funds to purchase luxury cars and apartments, including a Toyota FJ Cruiser, a Toyota Prado, and a Lexus.

He has been charged with 26 counts of robbery including 20 counts of robbery and six counts of money laundering but has pleaded not guilty.
