Two police officers promoted for heroic rescue, robbery suspect arrests

Two police officers have been promoted by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, for their exceptional bravery in rescuing robbery victims and apprehending suspects linked to a major fuel tanker hijacking.

Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka, stationed at the Anyaa District Command, has been recommended for the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy, which will see her commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps upon completion. Constable Joseph Akondoh has also been promoted to Lance Corporal.

According to a police statement, the recognition follows a snap check operation at Ablekuma Borkorborkor in the early hours of August 7, 2025. Kotoka, Akondoh, and four community police assistants intercepted a green pickup truck carrying three men. Two of them jumped off and cried for help, revealing they had been attacked the night before during a robbery of their 5,400-liter fuel tanker near Nsawam.

The officers swiftly rescued the victims, arrested one suspect, and initiated follow-up operations in the Eastern Region, where six more suspects were captured. The stolen tanker, another fuel tanker, and other items believed to be linked to the robbery were recovered.

Commending their courage and vigilance during an event at the Police Headquarters on August 8, the IGP urged all officers to emulate their professionalism. He stressed the administration’s commitment to rewarding personnel who go above and beyond in the line of duty.
