THE’s results, released on 21 January 2026, list the University of Ghana in the 251–300 global band for Law, making it the only Ghanaian law school to appear in the latest subject table.

The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) has been placed among the continent’s top performers in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject: Law, finishing sixth in Africa and leading Ghana and West Africa.

THE’s results, released on 21 January 2026, list the University of Ghana in the 251–300 global band for Law, making it the only Ghanaian law school to appear in the latest subject table.

THE says its Law subject ranking weighs performance across areas including constitutional and administrative law, international law, commercial and corporate law, criminal law and justice, and legal theory and jurisprudence. In 2026, 425 universities from 53 countries and territories were assessed using 18 indicators linked to the wider THE rankings framework.

UGSoL’s sixth-place finish comes behind a top five dominated by South African institutions — led by the University of Cape Town, followed by the University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University, and the University of the Witwatersrand.

Founded in 1959, UGSoL is Ghana’s oldest law school and has trained generations of lawyers, judges, academics and public officials. The university has also linked the latest recognition to its 2024–2029 strategic priorities, which emphasise research impact and global visibility.
