The Ghana Police Service has dismissed widespread reports suggesting that four police officers were detained for arresting a judge involved in a traffic-related incident. In a statement issued by Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the Service described the claims as baseless and misleading.
According to the statement, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) initiated a probe following a petition submitted by a Circuit Court judge on April 7, 2025. The petition alleged that on December 13, 2024, four officers from the Adenta Divisional Police Command, led by Inspector Godwin Dey, mistreated the judge, assaulted her clerk, and unlawfully towed her vehicle from the Adenta Court Complex.
The judge further claimed that despite lodging a formal complaint with the Adenta Police Command, no response had been received, prompting her to escalate the matter to the CID. As part of the investigation, officers identified as Inspector Francis Adjei, G/Sgt Dasebre Oti Boateng, and G/Cpl Jonah Ajubulisa were invited to provide statements at the CID Headquarters.
Superintendent Darkwah stressed that contrary to media reports, none of the officers were detained during the inquiry. “At no point were the officers detained, as has been falsely reported. We urge the public to disregard these publications, which lack any factual basis,” he stated.
The Police Service reiterated its commitment to upholding due process in the investigation and emphasized that while officers would be protected in the lawful execution of their duties, all allegations of misconduct would be addressed thoroughly and impartially.
