GTEC recently announced the suspension of all government-related support and services to UCC, and even listed the institution as “non-existent” on its official portal.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), University of Cape Coast (UCC) chapter, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to reverse recent sanctions imposed on the university.

GTEC recently announced the suspension of all government-related support and services to UCC, and even listed the institution as “non-existent” on its official portal. The move, according to the Commission, was triggered by UCC’s alleged failure to comply with directives concerning the tenure of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong.

Addressing journalists, UTAG-UCC Secretary Dr. Isaac Boabeng described GTEC’s actions as “unlawful, unjustifiable, and a direct attack” on the dignity and livelihoods of university staff.

He warned that any attempt to withhold salaries or other entitlements would be treated as criminal and reckless, saying:

UTAG-UCC is demanding that GTEC withdraw the directive and issue a formal apology by Thursday or Friday. Failure to do so, Dr. Boabeng cautioned, would spark a mass protest march to Accra by staff unions.
