Lawyers for Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako and Akonta Mining have indicated they will ask the court to compel prosecutors to hand over additional documents they believe are crucial to mounting a full defence.
The two are facing charges linked to alleged illegal mining activities on a concession at Samreboi without the necessary regulatory approvals.
Tuesday’s sitting — originally scheduled as a case management conference — did not proceed as planned.
Lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi told the court that the defence intends to file an application seeking further disclosures, arguing that materials critical to the preparation of their case were not included in what the State has so far provided.
Prosecutors, however, insisted that all documents intended for use at trial had already been submitted in two batches on 31 October and 11 November, describing the file as complete.
Appiah-Kubi countered that the defence expected the State to release all relevant documents, including those not earmarked for tendering in evidence but which could help the accused during pre-trial planning.
The presiding judge instructed the defence to proceed with filing their motion and to serve it on the prosecution once ready.
In addition, the court ordered Antwi-Boasiako and Akonta Mining to provide the names and contact details of witnesses they may call, should the prosecution succeed in establishing a prima facie case.
The matter has been adjourned to 8 December 2025 at 10:00 a.m., when the application for further disclosures is expected to be heard.
