The application, which was filed at the Accra High Court on May 30, 2025, had been scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, June 3. However, a day prior to the hearing, Wontumi’s legal representatives opted to pull out of the case.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, has withdrawn his legal application seeking a review of the GH¢50 million bail imposed on him by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

The application, which was filed at the Accra High Court on May 30, 2025, had been scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, June 3. However, a day prior to the hearing, Wontumi’s legal representatives opted to pull out of the case.

The bail conditions had initially been contested by his legal team, who argued that the amount was excessive and appeared intended to prevent his release. The motion, supported by an affidavit, requested the court to modify the bail to more reasonable terms.

But on Monday, June 2, private lawyer Gary Nimako officially filed a notice of withdrawal on behalf of the NPP regional executive, effectively ending the legal effort before it could be heard in court.

Lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi later explained that the legal team had successfully finalized the paperwork required for the two justified sureties tied to the original bail terms, making the court review unnecessary.

He credited the timely resolution to significant support received from Bryan Acheampong, a former Minister for Food and Agriculture, who reportedly played a key role in facilitating the final arrangements.

Following the withdrawal of the application, Chairman Wontumi is now expected to concentrate on the substantive legal issues underlying the EOCO investigation, as legal analysts suggest the matter may continue to develop in the coming weeks.
