Mr Addo is facing multiple charges, including conspiracy to assault a public officer, assault, conspiracy to cause unlawful damage, causing unlawful damage, and rioting with weapons.
An Accra Circuit Court has pushed to 22 January next year the case involving the Asutifi North MP, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, who is alleged to have encouraged a mob assault on officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an incident at Hwediem.
Mr Addo is facing multiple charges, including conspiracy to assault a public officer, assault, conspiracy to cause unlawful damage, causing unlawful damage, and rioting with weapons.
Two other suspects identified only as Zakaria Yakubu and Alex are still on the run. The MP’s plea has not yet been taken, but he is currently on GH¢150,000 bail.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, who stood in for the lead prosecutor, informed the court that investigators had not completed compiling witness statements and requested an additional month.
The defence lawyer, Ebenezer Kwaku Boadu, countered that if the prosecution remained unprepared by the next hearing, he would apply for his client’s discharge. The judge advised him to file a formal motion should he wish to pursue that argument.
The matter stems from an alleged confrontation on 3 November 2025, when the Director of NAIMOS, Colonel Dominic Buah, and his team reportedly came under attack in Hwediem, Ahafo Region.
Police say the MP incited members of the community to obstruct and assault the officials during an anti-illegal mining operation.
Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, directed the CID Headquarters to launch a full investigation. Mr Addo was subsequently invited to assist with inquiries.
The case is expected to resume early next year as investigators finalise their submissions.
