A 24-year-old labourer has been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court after he was accused of robbing a financial consultant at Cantonments.
Kwaku Asamoah, who lives at Kasoa, has pleaded not guilty to the robbery charge.
He is expected to reappear before the court on June 10, 2026.
The complainant, Benedicta Okaikor Addy, is said to be a financial consultant residing at La Apapa in Accra.
Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, prosecuting, told the court that the incident happened at about 4:00pm on May 13, 2026.
According to the prosecution, Ms Addy was walking along the Soul Clinic stretch at Cantonments when Asamoah allegedly came out of a nearby bush and demanded her handbag.
The bag contained an iPhone 7 valued at GH¢1,800 and cash of GH¢27.
The court heard that Asamoah allegedly grabbed the handbag, but the complainant resisted.
He is then alleged to have hit her with a strong blow before snatching the bag and fleeing.
A passer-by who reportedly saw the incident from a distance chased and arrested him.
Asamoah and the handbag were later handed over to the police.
In his caution statement, he admitted snatching the bag but denied that the incident amounted to robbery.
The court ordered that he be kept in police custody until his next appearance.8
