Police in the Central Region are searching for a gang of armed robbers who allegedly shot and killed a mobile money vendor at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market.
The attack happened on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The deceased has been identified as Hamisu Abdulai.
According to the Central East Regional Police Command, another person was also shot during the robbery and is receiving treatment at a health facility.
In a statement issued in Kasoa on June 8, police said the Gomoa Dominase District Police received information that armed men in face masks had attacked a mobile money vendor at the market.
The robbers reportedly fired several shots during the incident before escaping.
Police officers were immediately sent to the scene after distress calls from residents and traders.
Eyewitnesses, however, told police that the suspects had fled into a nearby bush before the officers arrived.
The two victims were first taken to a nearby polyclinic for emergency care.
They were later referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba because of the severity of their injuries.
Police said Hamisu Abdulai was pronounced dead on arrival.
The second victim, whose name has not been disclosed, is said to be responding to treatment.
Investigators later searched the scene and recovered 14 spent cartridges and one live BB cartridge.
The items have been retained as exhibits to support investigations.
The incident has heightened concern among traders and mobile money operators, who have increasingly become targets of armed attacks.
Hamisu’s death has also left relatives, colleagues and members of the market community in shock.
Police say intelligence-led operations are underway to trace and arrest the suspects.
The Central East Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist investigations.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact the Police Emergency numbers 191 or 18555, or report to the nearest police station.
The Command said it remains committed to identifying and arresting those behind the killing.
