A 37-year-old labourer has been fined GH¢1,200 by the Enchi District Magistrate Court in the Western North Region for stealing a farmer’s nanny goat at Dadieso.
Saiba Yusif, described in court as a notorious thief in his community, pleaded guilty to stealing the goat, which was valued at GH¢1,500 and belonged to 64-year-old farmer, Godfred Konti.
Presiding Magistrate Lawrence Buanor-Buer convicted Yusif on his own plea and, in addition to the fine, ordered him to pay GH¢3,000 in compensation to the complainant. In default of the fine, Yusif will serve nine months in prison.
Prosecutor General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante told the court that both men live in Dadieso in the Suaman District. On 11 September 2025, Konti released his four goats to graze, but one failed to return. He reported the matter to the Dadieso Police and alerted food vendors in the area to watch out for the missing animal.
Four days later, on 15 September, police received a tip-off linking Yusif to the theft. Officers placed him under surveillance and arrested him while he was attempting to sell the goat’s meat. He was taken to the police station, cautioned, and later charged with stealing before being arraigned.
