Seven individuals have been arrested by the Central Regional Police Command for illegal mining activities in Abora, located in the Upper Denkyira West District.

Acting on intelligence, the police raided a suspected galamsey site and caught the suspects—Latif Abdul Gyimah (55), Mohammed Bello (44), George Azu (52), Kingsley Owusu (23), Sampson Afadzi (45), Simon Atakpo (21), and Andrews Otto (26)—in the act.

The operation led to the seizure of several weapons and mining equipment, including one single-barrel shotgun, two pump-action Mossberg shotguns with serial numbers T069032 and T075882, and 26 live cartridges. Additionally, authorities confiscated two excavators, two Hyundai excavator monitors, three unregistered motorbikes, one unregistered Haojin tricycle, and a newly installed water pump machine.

Police are continuing efforts to locate more excavators believed to be at the illegal mining site. All suspects remain in custody as investigations proceed, with the seized weapons and machinery secured as evidence.
