A major police operation targeting suspected drug dealers and organised criminal gangs in Accra’s East Legon enclave has led to the arrest of 120 people, including six women, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.
The suspects were rounded up and taken to the East Legon Police Station, where they are being screened to determine those linked to specific offences and those believed to be involved in illicit drug distribution.
According to an internal police brief, the raid was led by ACP Saviour Ahiamadi and backed by a multi-unit taskforce that included senior officers DSP Malaika-Jibril Alhassan, DSP Richard Beriko, ASP Afram and ASP Sarpong from Police Headquarters, as well as ASP Imoro from the Accra Regional Command.
The coordinated exercise drew personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate, the Criminal Investigations Department, the National Operations Directorate, and both the Accra and East Legon commands, as part of an ongoing strategy to disrupt criminal networks operating in the capital’s high-end neighbourhoods.
