The Volta Regional Police have apprehended 26 individuals in connection with suspected drug trafficking during a coordinated operation at the Aflao border area on May 24, 2025.

According to a press release from the Regional Command, the operation, driven by intelligence, targeted several key locations in the border enclave notorious for criminal activity. The arrests were part of a broader strategy to clamp down on the illicit drug trade in the region.

Law enforcement officers seized various narcotic substances during the operation. Among the items recovered were 20 wraps of what is believed to be Indian hemp, 12 sachets of Tramadol, and additional dried leaves suspected to be cannabis stored in a rubber container.

Authorities also confiscated GHC 30,558 and 17,500 CFA in cash, believed to be proceeds from the illegal trade.

Other items retrieved included six toffees suspected to be laced with narcotics, eight creams believed to contain illegal substances, and 26 compressed parcels of Indian hemp concealed in a sack originally meant for fertilizer.

The police noted that all suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Formal charges are expected to be filed once investigations are completed.
