The incident was reported on 3 September 2025. A complainant told officers at the Millennium City District Command around 3:00 am that he had received a text message from Owusu, claiming he was under attack in his home.

Police in the Central East Region have arrested 35-year-old Benjamin Owusu after investigations revealed that he staged a robbery and abduction incident at Fijai, near Millennium City in Gomoa Nyanyano.

The incident was reported on 3 September 2025. A complainant told officers at the Millennium City District Command around 3:00 am that he had received a text message from Owusu, claiming he was under attack in his home.

Responding officers found no trace of him at the residence, but bloodstains were discovered on the bedroom floor. Samples were collected for forensic analysis.

Police said further inquiries showed that the SIM card used to send the distress message had been abandoned. The suspect later managed to replace the card and, on 5 September, made calls traced to Elubo in the Western Region.

According to DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Regional Command,

“The results of the blood samples from the Police forensic Crime lab proved negative for human blood after a DNA examination. Intelligence gathered by a dedicated team of investigators regarding the activities of the suspect led to the arrest of the suspect at his hideout at Akatamanso in the Ashanti Region on 24° September, 2025.”

Police say the suspect confessed that he slaughtered a duck and smeared its blood on the floor to make it appear he had been attacked. His motive, he admitted, was to conceal his inability to account for his employer’s money. DSP Dosoo disclosed that

“Upon his arrest, the suspect revealed that, he intentionally killed a duck and stained his bedroom floor with its blood to stage his kidnapping because he could not account for monies in his custody belonging to his employer. He will be put before Court to face justice after completion of investigations.”

The Police spokesperson expressed appreciation to all who supported the manhunt, adding, “We also caution persons with such intentions to desist as they will be made to face the full rigours of the law if arrested.”
