A multi-agency security team in Ghana says it has shut down a network of suspected cybercrime centres operating from residential properties in parts of Greater Accra, leading to the arrest of 53 Nigerian nationals.
The coordinated raids took place on 16 and 17 January 2026 after what authorities described as actionable intelligence from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), which indicated that young men were being lured to Ghana and coerced by alleged ringleaders into committing cyber-enabled crimes.
Security personnel drawn from National Security, the CSA, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters and the police SWAT unit carried out simultaneous operations in East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija and Tuba, according to official accounts.
Investigators say nine people were arrested as suspects, while 44 others found operating laptops in the apartments were classified as “rescued victims” believed to have been brought in under false pretences.
Searches, the authorities added, led to the seizure of 62 laptops, 52 mobile phones and two pump-action guns.
In a post published on 18 January, Ghana’s Communications Minister, Samuel Nartey George, said all 53 individuals had been profiled and transferred to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations, and warned foreign nationals to verify offers that draw them to the country.
He said the crackdown forms part of a broader enforcement drive, adding that some suspects picked up in earlier operations have been handed over to Nigerian authorities at the Seme border, while others are facing prosecution in Ghana.
