A sweeping nationwide crackdown led by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Ghana Police Service has resulted in the arrest of 65 individuals connected to cyber fraud and related crimes between May and July 2025.
The arrests, which spanned areas such as Sogakope, Dodowa, Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, Sassabi Ubuntu Estate, and Teshie-Nungua, involved 47 foreign nationals and 18 Ghanaians.
At a press briefing, Acting CSA Director-General Divine Selase Agbeti revealed that many of those arrested were part of sophisticated online fraud rings.
Operations in Dodowa uncovered a major human trafficking case, where 23 out of 25 arrested were later identified as victims and repatriated. Thirteen of the 16 suspects picked up in Bortianor are also being processed for repatriation. Investigations are ongoing for 13 foreign nationals and one Ghanaian arrested at Teshie-Nungua.
In Sogakope and Sege, suspects were found impersonating government officials and MPs, scamming victims under the guise of securing security service jobs. A ringleader was arrested on June 1.
Authorities seized a trove of equipment, including 62 laptops, 41 mobile phones, and Starlink internet devices, shedding light on the advanced tactics used by the syndicates.
“These arrests mark part of a larger national push to combat cybercrime and protect the integrity of Ghana’s digital space,” Mr. Agbeti said. He added that the CSA and CID are intensifying their intelligence-driven efforts, with international collaboration and victim protection at the forefront.
He encouraged the public to report any suspicious online activities via the CSA’s 24-hour email: report@csa.gov.gh.
CID boss COP Lydia Yaako Donkor also provided briefings on other high-profile investigations, including the murder of an immigration officer, an ongoing car robbery ring, and a recent robbery attack in Madina.
