Silas Owusu has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and threatening to kill.
A 20-year-old labourer has been remanded into police custody after he was accused of pulling a handgun on a resident at Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
Silas Owusu has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and threatening to kill. He pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Nkawie Circuit Court, presided over by Robert Addo. He is expected back in court on 9 January 2026.
Prosecutor Police Chief Inspector Evans Ayimbisa told the court that the complainant, Kwadwo Addo, and the accused both live at Abuakwa. On 21 December 2025, at about 16:00 GMT, Mr Addo is said to have come across Owusu fighting with a neighbour on his way to the Abuakwa Palace and intervened to separate them.
The intervention reportedly angered Owusu, who allegedly attempted to attack the complainant with a piece of wood. Mr Addo fled, leaving the wood behind, and later returned to the area.
According to the prosecution, on his return the accused allegedly drew a Brazilian-made pistol from his shorts and threatened to kill the complainant. Mr Addo escaped and lodged a report with the Abuakwa Police. With the support of some youth in the community, officers arrested the suspect shortly afterwards.
In his caution statement to police, Owusu allegedly admitted the offence and led officers to his room, where a search was conducted. A pair of scissors and a knife were retrieved as part of the investigation.
Following further inquiries, he was charged and brought before the court, which ordered that he remain in custody while the case proceeds.
