A 25-year-old fetish priest has been ordered into custody by the Adabraka District Court in connection with the killing of a female trader from Kasoa.
The suspect, Michael Xorlali Alortusah, who also works as a herbalist, was remanded by the court while police continue investigations into the case.
His plea was not taken. The court directed that he return on 25 March 2026, as investigators attempt to recover body parts said to be missing.
Prosecutors say the case involves Joyce Akua Ampomaa, a 40-year-old trader from Akweiley near Kasoa.
According to the prosecution, the woman had previously visited the suspect in 2025 to seek treatment for a leg condition.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Issah Achiburi told the court that the woman returned to the suspect’s residence on 4 March 2026, reportedly seeking spiritual assistance to safeguard her business.
After consulting with her, the accused allegedly asked her to accompany him to his farm so he could gather some herbs.
Police say that while they were heading there, he allegedly attacked her with a cutlass, killing her and severing parts of the body.
The prosecution said the body was later hidden in nearby bushland while the suspect allegedly took away the severed parts.
The incident came to light on 10 March 2026, when residents discovered the body close to the suspect’s farm and alerted police at the Jei Krodua station.
Officers retrieved the body and transported it to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police say the suspect was subsequently arrested and is alleged to have admitted responsibility during questioning.
