Legal counsel for former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, says the state’s own witnesses are unexpectedly strengthening the defence narrative.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Thursday, 18 December, lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea argued that evidence from the prosecution’s second witness is, in practice, supporting his client rather than undermining him.
He stressed that the defence is yet to open its case.
According to him, the witness’s explanations have provided crucial context around Mr Adu-Boahene’s role and decision-making at the NSB, and these align with how the former Director has always characterised his conduct in office.
He added that parts of the testimony, which touched on sensitive national security issues, painted a picture that is consistent with his client’s professional record rather than suggestive of wrongdoing.
“The witness has gone further to clarify certain national security issues which are entirely consistent with our client’s image and actions while in office,” he noted.
While emphasising that the trial is still in its early stages, Atta Akyea said developments so far have boosted the defence team’s confidence, as elements of the prosecution’s own evidence appear to illuminate facts that are favourable to Mr Adu-Boahene.
