According to police sources, the suspect, who lives at Oboman in the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra Region, had travelled to spend the night with her when the incident occurred.

Police have arrested a man believed to be in his late 30s for allegedly killing his 24-year-old girlfriend at Awutu Yamoah Nkwanta in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

The victim, a trader known only as Sister Yaa, was found dead with severe head injuries and a concrete block left on her face.

According to police sources, the suspect, who lives at Oboman in the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra Region, had travelled to spend the night with her when the incident occurred. He is alleged to have attacked her after she refused to have sex with him.

Preliminary information suggests the man first slashed her face with a cutlass before smashing her head with a concrete block.

The Ogyahene of the Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Acheampong Kumi I, confirmed the incident, saying he was alerted by members of the community and immediately notified the local police commander. Officers later arrived at the scene, removed the body and arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody assisting with investigations.

Nai Kumi I urged women facing threats or abuse in relationships to report to the police at an early stage rather than remain silent until violence escalates. He warned that criminal acts would not be tolerated within his traditional area and that perpetrators would be handed over to law enforcement.

The chief also cautioned young people against the abuse of tramadol and other illicit substances, noting that drug misuse can fuel violent and criminal behaviour.
