The court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie, admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties, who must justify the bail with landed property.

A 28-year-old branch manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC has been granted bail after appearing before the Adenta Circuit Court over an alleged GH¢1 million theft from the bank.

Adjetey Isaac Noi has been charged with stealing but pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie, admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties, who must justify the bail with landed property.

Prosecutors allege that between March and September 2025, Noi reactivated a dormant customer account without the account holder’s consent and used it to move funds from the bank to accounts held with other financial institutions.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo told the court that the matter came to light after the Head of Audit and Inspection at ARB Apex Bank PLC and a team of auditors inspected the Oyibi branch on September 28, 2026.

The audit was reportedly triggered by information suggesting that suspicious transactions were taking place at the branch.

During the exercise, the team allegedly discovered that GH¢1 million had been transferred from an internal bank account into another account at the same branch bearing the name Nii Adjei Sowatey.

The account, according to the prosecution, had previously been dormant.

The audit team subsequently alerted the bank’s head office, which directed that a formal complaint be made to the police.

Noi was later arrested and questioned over the transaction. Prosecutors told the court that he was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the movement of the money.

Further investigations allegedly showed that the dormant account had been reactivated and used as an intermediary account through which the funds were transferred to several accounts in other banks.

The prosecution maintains that Noi was unable to account for those transfers during investigations.

His lawyer, however, urged the court to grant him bail, arguing that he was not a flight risk and had a fixed residence at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.
