A Chinese national, Dai Mengsheng, who was facing an alleged murder charge, has been granted police enquiry bail by the Takoradi District Court.
Mengsheng's bail was set at GH¢500,000, with three sureties, one of whom must be justified. As part of the bail conditions, his passport has been seized by the police to ensure his presence during court proceedings.
The bill of indictment, a key document outlining the charges against him, is expected to be ready for submission to the High Court within the next two to three weeks.
He was initially charged with preparation to commit murder, specifically murder, under Sections 19 and 46 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The charge was based on legal advice from the Attorney General’s office in Sekondi.
Mengsheng was arrested on February 14, 2025, in Tarkwa, located in the Western Region, following a complaint lodged by businessman David Anthony Nicol-Sey, a resident of Takoradi. After his arrest, he was transferred to the Regional Police Command in Sekondi for further investigations.
