The Accra Circuit Court has denied bail to Wontumi TV presenter Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare, who is facing charges after linking former President John Mahama to the August 6 military helicopter crash that killed eight people.
Kofi Asare was arrested on Tuesday, August 12, following an on-air broadcast that authorities say contained unfounded allegations about the fatal crash in the Adansi Akrofoum District of the Ashanti Region. The tragedy has prompted nationwide mourning, with a state funeral set for Friday, August 15.
At Thursday’s hearing, the court rejected a bail application from the defence, ordering that the broadcaster remain in police custody while investigations continue.
Defense lawyer Enoch Anhwere Afoakwah described the ruling as a miscarriage of justice and vowed to challenge the decision at the High Court.
