A 53-year-old pharmaceutical distributor, Alhaji Abdulai Sayuti, has been remanded for illegally possessing large quantities of opioids, including tramadol.
According to police, Sayuti was initially picked up at Victory Cimana, near Aboabo in Tamale, where officers found him with 368 blisters of tramadol and another 298 blisters of the same drug.
Following the arrest, a further search led authorities to a warehouse in the Fou area, where they uncovered a massive stockpile—447 boxes of tramadol and 11 boxes of tramaking.
In court on Wednesday, Sayuti admitted to the charges of illegally possessing and selling restricted drugs. The court ordered that he be held in prison custody until his next appearance, scheduled for July 21, 2025.
However, proceedings were briefly disrupted when the accused collapsed in court. He is now being treated at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Police have assured the public of their commitment to fighting illegal drug distribution and have urged citizens to share any helpful information that could aid in ongoing crackdowns.
