Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has publicly challenged his successor, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to provide concrete evidence of an alleged GH¢10 million settlement offer reportedly made by lawyers for Beige Capital, a claim Ayine says he rejected.

Dr. Ayine, speaking at a sectoral update on Monday, July 28, claimed that shortly after taking office, legal representatives of Beige Capital approached him with a GH¢10 million offer as part of a proposed settlement related to the financial sector clean-up. He said he declined the offer, asserting his dedication to justice and integrity.

But in a sharp rebuttal issued the next day, Tuesday, July 29, Mr. Dame questioned the credibility of Ayine’s statement and demanded that he produce documentation to support his claim.

“I ask, under what circumstances does Dr. Ayine claim that counsel for the accused in the Beige Bank case offered him GH¢10 million?” Dame wrote. “I assert that there is no record of this. I challenge Dr. Ayine to produce the receipt of such a proposal and his official response. Was it a private proposal to him?”

Dame’s statement intensifies the brewing tension between the two legal heavyweights, as public scrutiny continues over recent decisions by the Attorney-General’s office, particularly Ayine’s controversial nolle prosequi in the Unibank prosecution involving Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.

Dame also aimed at Ayine’s handling of the Beige Bank case, criticizing what he described as a missed opportunity to seek justice. He noted that under Ayine’s watch, the state lost its appeal in the Court of Appeal over a “no case” ruling for the accused.
