A sophisticated cyber fraud ring has been dismantled in Sasaabi, a community along the Dodowa road in the Greater Accra Region, following a major joint operation led by Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Police Cybercrime Unit.
The Thursday, July 3 raid was carried out by a 12-member tactical team, coordinated by senior officers from the CSA and the Ghana Police Service. The operation resulted in the arrest of 25 Nigerian nationals, suspected of running a large-scale cyber fraud scheme targeting victims both locally and internationally.
Authorities seized over 40 laptops and 25 mobile phones believed to have been used in a range of online scams, including financial fraud.
The operation was launched after the Computer Emergency Response Team – Ghana (CERT-GH) received a distress alert from a Nigerian national claiming he was being held against his will and forced to commit online fraud. Investigators verified his identity through his mother in Nigeria and found that he had been reported missing back home.
According to the whistleblower, nearly 20 others were being similarly exploited, triggering urgent cross-border intelligence sharing and immediate action by law enforcement.
“This operation underscores Ghana’s zero-tolerance stance on transnational cybercrime,” a CSA official said. “We are committed to protecting all individuals—Ghanaian or foreign—who fall prey to criminal exploitation.”
All 25 suspects are currently in police custody, as forensic experts analyze the seized devices. Investigators are also looking into possible connections to larger international cybercrime networks.
