A 33-year-old driver, Anthony Atsu Godbless, has been remanded by the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly attempting to steal and illegally sell a vehicle worth GH¢240,000.
Godbless is facing multiple charges, including attempted crime, theft, and causing unlawful damage. He admitted to damaging the vehicle’s tracking system but pleaded not guilty to the other charges.
Presiding over the case, Judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit accepted his partial plea and ordered his remand into police custody. She further directed the prosecution to file the necessary disclosures and witness statements ahead of the case management conference. The matter is scheduled to continue on July 16, 2025.
According to Chief Inspector Portia Nuarko, who led the prosecution, the case stems from a work-and-pay agreement entered into in November 2024 between the accused and the complainant, Mr. Joshua Agbenorhevi, General Manager of Drive Track Limited. Under the agreement, Godbless received a Nissan Note saloon car, valued at GH¢240,000, with the obligation to pay in installments over 51 months.
Trouble began when the vehicle’s tracking system was disabled, prompting the company to report the issue to the Dansoman Police on June 28, 2025. Investigations revealed that Godbless had attempted to smuggle the vehicle into Togo for a quick sale.
In a sting operation assisted by Aflao Police, Godbless was arrested after negotiating with two undercover officers to sell the car for GH¢80,000. The vehicle was recovered, and an inspection confirmed tampering with the tracking device.
