A 26-year-old driver has been fined GH¢1,800 after he was caught using a mobile phone while driving in the Ashanti Region.
Paul Owusu was convicted by the Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality after pleading guilty to two traffic offences.
He admitted driving without a valid insurance certificate and using a communication device while behind the wheel.
The court, presided over by Robert Addo, convicted him on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong said officers from the Nkawie Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department were on routine traffic duty in Nkawie Township on April 13, 2026.
At about 3:00pm, the officers saw Owusu driving a Honda Accord minibus with registration number GS 2966-22 while allegedly using a mobile phone.
The prosecution said the officers stopped the vehicle and later discovered that its insurance certificate had expired.
Owusu was arrested, processed and charged before being arraigned.
The court subsequently imposed the GH¢1,800 fine.
