Takyi, charged with careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm, made his first court appearance this week.

The Kaneshie District Court One has granted bail in the sum of GH¢70,000 with two sureties to a driver, John Takyi, who is accused of fatally knocking down a pedestrian along the Dr. K.A. Busia Highway in Accra.

Takyi, charged with careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm, made his first court appearance this week. However, his plea was not taken, as the case docket has been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for legal advice. The court has adjourned proceedings to June 25, 2025.

According to the facts presented by Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on May 10, 2025. Takyi, who was behind the wheel of a Kia Sorento with registration number GR 2926-21, reported to the police that he had been driving from Odorkor in the direction of Mallam when he struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the road near the Odorkor Water Works area.

The victim, identified as 50-year-old Kojo Andoh, was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by medical staff. His body was subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Following police investigations, Takyi was formally charged and brought before the court.
