In default of payment, Ablor will serve a two-year prison sentence.

A 32-year-old driver’s mate, Jonathan Ablor, has been fined GH¢3,000 by the Adenta Circuit Court for unlawfully entering a construction site and stealing air conditioner copper pipes valued at GH¢40,000.

In default of payment, Ablor will serve a two-year prison sentence.

The presiding judge, Mrs. Angela Attachie, convicted him after he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, the complainant, Oswella Osei-Owusu, is a businesswoman and estate developer, while the accused resides in Teshie.

On October 2, 2025, at around 6:10 p.m., Abdulai Alidu, a foreman working at the complainant’s uncompleted building at East Legon Hills, noticed Ablor cutting copper pipes from air conditioners installed at the site.

Sensing trouble, Alidu quietly approached and grabbed Ablor, who attempted to scale the wall to escape. His shout for help drew the attention of a security guard and other workers, who assisted in apprehending the suspect along with the stolen items.

A formal complaint was later lodged at the Lakeside Estate Police Station, where Ablor confessed to the theft in his caution statement.

The court, after considering his plea and the value of the stolen property, handed down the fine as punishment. Ablor will serve two years in jail if he fails to pay the GH¢3,000 fine.
