The Asante Akropong Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu, sentenced Latif to three years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the offense.
Latif Abubakar, a 20-year-old ex-convict, is heading back to jail—this time for stealing three firearms from a blacksmith’s workshop in Nkawie-Panin, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
The Asante Akropong Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu, sentenced Latif to three years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the offense.
According to Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan, the incident began on April 25, 2025, when three individuals deposited their guns for repairs at the workshop of Nana Kwame Agyei, the complainant and a local blacksmith.
Nearly a month later, on May 23 at around 5:30 a.m., the blacksmith discovered the weapons missing and immediately reported the theft to the Nkawie Police.
A breakthrough came when a community member reported seeing Latif with a suspicious white sack near the area in the early hours of the same day. The tip-off led to his arrest at a nearby hideout, with help from local youth.
During questioning, Latif confessed and directed officers to his home, where the stolen guns were found hidden under his bed.
Latif, who had previously served a one-year sentence in 2022 for a similar theft, was swiftly charged and convicted based on his own plea.
The court handed down a three-year custodial sentence, marking his second imprisonment in just three years.
