A Tarkwa district court has jailed Kingsford Kwame Boadu, a 22-year-old miner, for six months with hard labour after finding him guilty of defrauding a businesswoman in a fake-gold sale.
Police prosecutor Sgt Douglas Addae told the court that the complainant, Harriet Clement, runs a business in Tarkwa.
In July 2025, Boadu and another man, Papa Yaw (now on the run), went to her house with what they claimed was gold and offered to sell it. Clement agreed to buy it after they priced it at GH¢3,700, and she paid Boadu, who handed the “gold” to her.
Days later, her husband Kobby Danquah tried to resell the item, but a gold dealer reportedly confirmed it was fake.
The couple later spotted Boadu in Tarkwa on 12 August 2025, arrested him, and handed him over to the police.
In questioning, the prosecution said Boadu admitted the offence and mentioned Papa Yaw as his accomplice, but could not help police locate him.
The court convicted Boadu for defrauding by false pretence and imposed the six-month custodial sentence.
