The accused, Joseph Amissah, also known as ‘Alobo Ndaah,’ pleaded not guilty to two counts of making death threats.
A 56-year-old farmer from Nyankamam in the Aowin Municipality has been arraigned before the Enchi District Magistrate Court for allegedly threatening to kill a miner over a disputed piece of land.
The accused, Joseph Amissah, also known as ‘Alobo Ndaah,’ pleaded not guilty to two counts of making death threats. Presiding Judge Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer granted him bail set at GH¢50,000 with two sureties. He is scheduled to reappear in court on March 21, 2025.
According to the prosecution, led by Detective Chief Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, the complainant, Akwasi Anafi Bediako, originally from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, currently resides in Nyankamam Daame, near Enchi.
In 2019, a local resident, Amos Asare, leased a swampy piece of land to Bediako for mining. Bediako made the necessary payments before leaving for his hometown. Upon returning in January 2025, he resumed mining activities on the land.
On January 23, around 11:30 a.m., while Bediako and his workers were on-site, Amissah allegedly approached him, called him aside, and warned him to vacate the land. He is accused of threatening to gather armed men to kill both Bediako and Asare if they did not comply.
Following the threat, Bediako informed Asare, who advised him to return to Nyankamam so they could address the issue together.
However, on January 27, at approximately 6:30 a.m., while Bediako and a witness were heading to Asare’s residence, they encountered Amissah again, who allegedly repeated the threat.
Bediako and Asare subsequently reported the matter to the Enchi Police, leading to Amissah’s arrest. During police investigations, the accused denied making any threats.
The case is ongoing as authorities continue their inquiries.
