A 24-year-old farmer identified as Wisabu Kwame has been remanded into custody by the Nkwanta South Magistrate Court after being accused of fatally assaulting his five-year-old daughter in the community of Pawa, located in the Nkwanta South District of Ghana's Oti Region.

The tragic event unfolded on April 27, 2025. According to information presented in court, Kwame and his young daughter had spent the night on their farm near Keri. He reportedly left in the morning to procure some food ingredients from a neighboring village. Upon his return, he found that the child had soiled herself.

Overcome with anger, Kwame allegedly subjected the child to a brutal beating, which left her unconscious. Realizing the severity of the situation, he transported her to the Keri CHPS facility for medical attention. She was later referred to the Nkwanta St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, where medical personnel fought to revive her. Sadly, she was pronounced dead despite their efforts.

Medical reports pointed to extensive injuries indicative of sustained physical assault, prompting hospital staff to notify the police. Kwame was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.

The case was brought before Magistrate George Valentine Arhine, who ordered that Kwame be held in remand for two weeks. The court stressed the gravity of the allegations and underscored the necessity for a thorough investigation. The remand is intended to allow police sufficient time to deepen their inquiries and compile relevant evidence.
