Alugu, who has pleaded not guilty, will make his next court appearance before Judge Robert Addo on August 22, 2025.

A 26-year-old farmer, Kwame Alugu, popularly known as Jansarah, has been ordered into prison custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court for allegedly stealing ginger from a farm at Gyankobaa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

Alugu, who has pleaded not guilty, will make his next court appearance before Judge Robert Addo on August 22, 2025.

According to Police Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu, the complainant, Regina Agyei, owns a ginger farm in Gyankobaa, where Alugu also lives. On May 26, 2025, around 3:00 p.m., Agyei visited her farm and caught Alugu with half a bag of freshly harvested ginger valued at GH¢2,000.

She convinced him to carry the produce home so they could sell it and share the proceeds. However, during the walk back, Agyei made a phone call to explain the situation to someone. Realizing she might be alerting others, Alugu fled with the ginger.

A complaint was lodged with the Toase Police, and on August 6, Alugu was picked up in connection with a separate theft. The complainant identified him, leading to his questioning.

In his caution statement, Alugu admitted to selling the ginger to someone in Gyankobaa but failed to name the buyer. He was later charged and arraigned before the court.
