Nii Baah Afful, a 29-year-old fisherman, has been remanded into custody by the Gender-Based Violence Court in Accra following accusations of assault.
He is scheduled to reappear before the court on April 9, 2025.
Afful was apprehended by the Accra Regional Police Command after a disturbing video circulated on social media, allegedly showing him physically attacking 21-year-old Francisca Aryee, who was carrying their eight-month-old child at the time.
According to a statement issued by Superintendent Juliana Obeng of the Greater Accra Public Affairs Directorate, preliminary investigations confirmed that Afful and Aryee were cohabiting and have two children together.
The assault reportedly took place on March 20, 2025, at Korle Gonno during a domestic dispute. Aryee had tried to leave for her mother’s residence but was allegedly chased and attacked.
The Police Intelligence Unit arrested Afful on March 22, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. He remains in custody while investigations continue.
Authorities have located Aryee, who is currently receiving medical attention and psychological support.
