A forest guard, George Nii Quaye, has been arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly attempting to traffic illegal drugs disguised as clothing in a parcel bound for Dormaa Ahenkro.

The 55-year-old was intercepted on July 26, 2025, at the VIP bus terminal in Kwame Nkrumah Circle after a vigilant driver’s mate grew suspicious of a package Quaye was dispatching. Upon questioning, Quaye insisted the parcel contained only clothes—but a search revealed 55 sachets of dried leaves and various unregistered drugs.

The seized items included 20 sachets of Amnezia, four sachets of Tapentadol (Red) 250 mg, and 16 sachets of Timaking 120 mg—all of which are banned by the Food and Drugs Authority.

Charged with possession of prohibited drugs, Quaye pleaded not guilty. Presiding Judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit granted him bail set at GH¢10,000 with two justified sureties. He was also ordered to surrender his Ghana Card and report to the police on a biweekly basis.

The court has directed the prosecution to file disclosures and witness statements ahead of a Case Management Conference. The matter has been adjourned to September 1, 2025.

Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, leading the prosecution, noted that the drugs were sealed and sent for forensic analysis, while Quaye’s caution statement was recorded as part of ongoing investigations.
