Former MASLOC boss Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has been detained in Nevada after US authorities acted on an extradition request from Ghana, a statement says.
Former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) chief executive Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has been arrested in the United States and is being held in custody, according to a press release issued by Victor Emmanuel Smith.
The statement says she is currently detained at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre in Pahrump, Nevada.
It adds that US Marshals arrested her on 6 January and that she has remained in detention since then.
The arrest was carried out following an extradition request submitted by Ghanaian authorities, the release says, noting that the request was sent to the US in July 2024.
Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu is being held pending court proceedings in the United States, where the extradition process is expected to move through the judicial system.
The development is a major step in a case that has attracted public attention, and highlights cross-border cooperation between Ghana and the US on law enforcement matters.
The statement does not give a timetable for the court process, and it does not set out the specific allegations behind the extradition request. However, it indicates that US authorities have formally acted on Ghana’s submission and that the matter has now entered the legal phase.
