The Eastern North Regional Police Command has apprehended four individuals, including a woman, for criminal activities during this year’s vibrant Kwahu Easter celebrations.
The annual festival drew massive crowds from various parts of Ghana and beyond, creating a lively atmosphere across the Kwahu area. Despite repeated warnings from law enforcement urging attendees to observe the law, some revelers defied security directives and ended up in police custody.
Eastern North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Kwadwo Asante, confirmed the arrests during an interview on Adom FM with Baffuor Owiredu Amoh. He explained that the suspects were picked up for separate offenses, including attempted theft and possession of illicit substances.
“One individual was caught snatching a mobile phone, another used a shock device to intimidate and rob people, while a third was found with cannabis-infused confectionery known as ‘wee toffee,’” DCOP Asante revealed.
The police are still investigating the incidents, and there are indications the suspects could be arraigned in court as early as Tuesday.
DCOP Asante warned the remaining celebrants sternly, urging them to respect the law as the festivities continue. He further assured the public that the police would review their security measures to close any gaps and maintain order throughout the celebrations on the Kwahu hills.
