According to the KMA, officers on the taskforce encountered the men during the operation and suspected them of engaging in drug peddling.
Four men have been handed over to the police by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s security taskforce following an operation targeting suspected drug sales at AshTown.
The suspects were picked up during what the Assembly described as a routine enforcement exercise carried out in a sanitation area behind the AshTown Post Office in Kumasi.
According to the KMA, officers on the taskforce encountered the men during the operation and suspected them of engaging in drug peddling.
Items recovered at the scene included substances believed to be Indian hemp, a locally manufactured pistol, packs of cigarettes, what officials described as hard drugs, boxes of Mashallah (Ataya), cash and other materials considered harmful.
The Assembly said the four have since been transferred to the Kumasi Central Police Station for further investigation.
In a statement, the KMA said it remained committed to protecting the public and preserving order across the metropolis.
It also called on residents to support efforts against illegal activity by reporting suspicious conduct and cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
The identities of the suspects have not yet been disclosed.
