The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers and fatally shot another in two separate intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing violent crime in the region.

The first incident occurred on July 9 along the Ankaako–Asuoso–Fenase road in the Amansie South District. A police patrol team responded swiftly to a distress call reporting a robbery in progress, where four armed men had allegedly mounted a roadblock and were robbing travelers.

The suspects—identified as Rahman Alhassan, 27; Nurudeen Fatawu, 25; Naafewu Masahudu, 22; and Yaw Saaka, 42—were arrested as they attempted to escape on motorbikes. Officers recovered a pump-action shotgun, 20 rounds of AAA ammunition, a sword, and a collection of talismans during the arrest.

In a separate incident, police engaged a group of suspected robbers in a shootout at Abedwum in the Obuasi Municipality. According to police accounts, the suspects opened fire on officers before fleeing into nearby bushes. One suspect was killed in the exchange, while others managed to escape.

A search of the deceased suspect’s backpack revealed 14 rounds of ammunition and undisclosed items. Authorities believe some of the fleeing suspects may have been injured during the shootout and have launched a manhunt to apprehend them.

The Police Command has assured residents of continued efforts to ensure public safety and has urged anyone with relevant information to assist in their investigations.
