A gardener who served a retired university lecturer for half a decade has confessed to stealing three outdoor air-conditioner units valued at GH¢12,000. The incident occurred at the lecturer’s residence in Amrahia, a suburb of Accra.
The accused, Kwabena Frimpong, appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court, where he admitted to the offence. He explained to the court that mounting financial pressures and a request for money from his pregnant wife pushed him to commit the crime.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Eric Ransford Abban, Frimpong dismantled the air-conditioner units from the compound while on duty two months prior. After the theft, he vanished until police apprehended him on April 16, 2025, at a construction site near the Airport area.
Frimpong told investigators he had sold each unit for GH¢1,000 to a friend named Ebenezer, believed to reside in Dawhenya. However, he claimed ignorance of Ebenezer’s exact address, making it impossible for the police to recover the items.
Presiding Judge Sarah Nyarkoa Nkansa accepted Frimpong’s guilty plea and remanded him into custody. He is scheduled to return to court on May 26, 2025, for sentencing.
