The application, filed on September 30, 2026, forms part of ongoing proceedings involving six individuals accused in connection with the high-value narcotics case.
The High Court has fixed November 5, 2026, to hear an application by Helena Akua Denkyi, the sixth accused person in the alleged GH¢261 million French cocaine case, seeking to have her name removed from the charge sheet.
The application, filed on September 30, 2026, forms part of ongoing proceedings involving six individuals accused in connection with the high-value narcotics case.
During the latest court sitting, counsel for Denkyi informed the court that the Attorney-General's Department had been served with a hearing notice but had yet to file an affidavit opposing the application.
The lawyer explained that the motion was originally scheduled for hearing on October 8, but proceedings could not take place because the court did not sit.
The matter was subsequently rescheduled for October 14.
However, the presiding judge indicated that the application had only been formally brought to the court's attention during the latest proceedings and that sufficient time was required to examine its contents before hearing it.
The court consequently deferred consideration of the application to November 5.
Prosecution working to complete disclosures
Meanwhile, the prosecution informed the court that efforts were underway to complete and file the necessary disclosures to facilitate the commencement of the trial.
The prosecution consequently requested an adjournment to enable it to fulfil its disclosure obligations.
Responding to the submission, defence counsel welcomed the indication that the prosecution was preparing its disclosures.
Counsel suggested that the development pointed to the completion of investigations and urged the court to consider granting bail to the accused persons.
The trial judge, however, declined to entertain the oral request, directing the defence to formally move the appropriate bail application.
The judge explained that the prosecution could not reasonably be expected to respond to an application that had not been formally presented for consideration.
Defence counsel subsequently requested a shorter adjournment of two weeks instead of the one-month period being contemplated.
Six accused persons before the court
The case involves six accused persons identified as Francis Narh Amanor, Frank Adu Boahene, Togbe Agbeti, Andrews Tetteh Amponsah, Daniel Laryea and Helena Akua Denkyi.
All six were present during the proceedings.
While the other accused persons remain part of the ongoing criminal case, Denkyi is seeking a court order removing her name from the charge sheet.
The High Court has yet to determine the merits of her application, and the fact that the prosecution had not filed an affidavit in opposition does not, by itself, mean the application has been granted.
The matter is expected to return to court on November 5, when Denkyi's application will be considered.
The prosecution is also expected to take steps towards completing the outstanding disclosures necessary for the further conduct of the criminal proceedings.
