The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into 88 individuals intercepted aboard two Metro Mass Transit buses at Benchema, near Asawinso, in the Western North Region on Tuesday, December 3.

A video circulating on social media showed Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Member of Parliament for Juaboso, alleging that the passengers were brought in from Burkina Faso with intentions to create unrest in the Sefwi area.

The MP, seen on one of the buses with the individuals seated inside, claimed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was responsible for their recruitment.

In a statement, the Police disclosed that preliminary findings suggested the individuals had been recruited by a man identified as Sammy. Reports indicate they were from various locations in the Greater Accra Region, including Adenta, Oyarifa, and Madina. They were allegedly being transported to the Western North Region to serve as polling station security personnel.

The suspects are currently in custody and assisting law enforcement in the ongoing investigation. Authorities have also assured the public that efforts are being made to locate and apprehend Sammy, the purported organizer, to provide further clarity on the matter.
