The president of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has renewed the association’s resolve to seek justice for the late investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, whose murder remains shrouded in unanswered questions.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, April 23, Mr. Dwumfour acknowledged that while one individual has been apprehended and is currently standing trial, the broader circumstances of the case are far from resolved.

Highlighting the national and international concern surrounding the case, Mr. Dwumfour urged the Ghana Police Service to provide the public with regular and transparent updates.

Mr. Dwumfour also reaffirmed the GJA’s preparedness to escalate the matter beyond Ghana’s borders if the pursuit of justice stalls domestically.

He revealed that the GJA is considering taking the case to the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice and is receiving support from global press freedom bodies, including the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

Ahmed Suale, a journalist with the investigative outfit Tiger Eye PI, was shot and killed in January 2019. His assassination drew widespread condemnation and has since become a symbol of the dangers faced by investigative reporters in Ghana and beyond.
