Two men caught stealing goats in Tamale have been exiled from the Chogu community after being apprehended and shamed before local traditional leaders.
The suspects, Nafiwu Bakar—a national service staff at the Bole Forestry Commission—and his accomplice Rashid Yussif, both hailing from Damongo in the Savannah Region, were captured last Friday by a vigilant neighborhood watch group while attempting to steal livestock.
Instead of handing them over to the police, residents brought the culprits before the chief and elders of Chogu. After a brief hearing, the traditional authorities decided to banish them immediately from the town.
Though the pair claimed they were working under the direction of others who promised to reward them for the stolen animals, the excuse fell flat. The elders dismissed their plea, highlighting the duo's growing infamy and stressing the need for firm action to protect community integrity.
In pronouncing the banishment, the Chief of Chogu reaffirmed his commitment to preserving law and order, making it clear that acts of theft and disorder would be met with swift and decisive consequences.
